BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Three strong appearances last week has earned Augustana right-handed pitcher Derek Quame Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday.
Quame, a sophomore from Eagle Lake, Minn., went 1-0 and had a save for Augustana last week in three appearances and 5.1 shutout innings of work. He allowed just five hits and struck out nine. He tossed the final 1.2 innings in the opening game of a doubleheader with Northern State on Saturday to earn a save, fanning four and helping his team to a 5-1 win. On Sunday against the Wolves, Quame tossed 3.0 innings and struck out five for his first win of the season as the Vikings posted a 14-12 victory.
Augustana's four wins over the weekend allowed head coach Tim Huber to reach 100 career wins.
It's the second weekly conference award for the Vikings this season. Derek Hansen was named player of the week on March 19.
Augustana (9-6, 4-0 NSIC) will bring its perfect conference record to Winona State (6-9, 1-3 NSIC) this weekend for a four-game league series. The Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders both start at noon.
