In-House League Summary

Summary for each in-house age group, click on age group:

6 Yr Olds:

  • 7-10 players per team
  • Play two nights per week (Monday and Wednesday)
  • Games start at either 6:00 pm OR 7:15 pm, time limit of one hour
  • Ball is batted from a tee for all players, all year
  • Last batter cannot advance past second base
  • All players play defensively every inning, and bat
  • Safety balls are for practice only, regular baseballs are to be used during actual games

7 Yr Olds:

  • 7-10 players per team
  • Play two nights per week (Tuesday and Thursday)
  • Games start at either 6:00 pm OR 7:15 pm, time limit of one hour
  • Ball is batted from a tee for all players for the first two weeks of the season; switches to coach UNDERHAND pitch starting 3rd week of games
  • Last batter cannot advance past second base
  • All players play defensively every inning, and bat

8 Yr Olds:

  • 11-14 players per team
  • Play two nights per week (Monday and Wednesday)
  • Game time 6:15 pm; all games played in Mankato/North Mankato
  • 10 players on the field per inning
  • Games are 5 innings long with a time limit of 1 1/2 hours.  New new inning starts after 1 1/2 hours. 
  • Full roster batting.  Batting order stays the same for the full game, but may/should change for the next game
  • After 3 outs are recorded in an inning, the bases will be cleared of all base runners before the next batter bats.  The inning is over when ALL teams members have batted that inning.
  • No walks, no strikeouts, no leading off, no stealing

 9 Yr Olds:

  • 11-14 players per team
  • Play two nights per week (Tuesday and Thursday)
  • Game time 6:15 pm; all games played in Mankato/North Mankato
  • 10 players on the field per inning
  • Games are 6 innings long with a time limit of 2 hours.  New new inning starts after 2 hours. 
  • All players must play 3 innings per game and may not sit out 2 consecutive innings
  • All players must play 2 different defensive positions per game
  • Full roster batting. 
  • 3 outs constitute an inning
  • PITCHING:  Pitching will be done by both adults and youth players. Pitches will be thrown overhand and the youth pitcher will throw to the opposing team. The adults will pitch in even numbered innings, and youth pitchers will pitch in odd numbered innings. Youth pitchers will throw an amount of pitches determined by the coach. If a hit does not occur or if the youth pitcher cannot continue, the coach (or adult) can throw additional pitches and complete the inning.  Each youth pitcher will pitch a maximum of one inning.
  • Each batter will have a maximum of 7 pitches to hit the ball (7 total whether pitched by adult or youth); if after 7 pitches the ball is not hit into fair territory, the batter sits down and no out is recorded
  • A 7 run rule is in effect, this includes the final inning for 9 yr olds. Once a team scores 7 runs in their half of an inning, and play in which the 7 the run has scored is completed (therefore a maximum of 10 runs are possible in an inning) that inning will be declared over by the coaches. Note: NO 10 run rule in effect.
  • No walks, no strikeouts, no leading off, no stealing
  • Base runnrs may not advance on an overthrow at any time

10 Yr Olds:

  • Schedule will call for teams to play games in both Mankato and North Mankato with possible games at outer lying communities
  • 2 games per week (Monday & Wednesday)
  • Game time is promptly at 6:15 pm
  • A minimum of 11 and a maximum of 14 players per team
  • 10 players play on the field per inning—free substitution
  • Game is 6 innings long (5 ½  if home team is ahead) with a 2 hour time limit
  • No new inning will start after the 2 hour time limit, no extra innings
  • All players must play at least 3 innings and may not sit out 2 consecutive innings
  • Each player must play 2 different defensive positions per game
  • 3 outs constitute an inning
  • PITCHING: is done by the players, with 2 consecutive innings per game limit per pitcher
  • No curve balls are allowed. No Balks will be called.
  • If a pitcher walks 5 batters in one inning he must be removed as a pitcher (Hit batter counts as a walk).
  • No player can pitch and catch in the same game for more than 4 innings. A player can catch more than 4 innings provided he does not pitch in that game.
  • Walks will be called after ball 4 and strike outs after 3 strikes
  • Base runners may advance to second by steal or wild pitch, and may only advance to third via a batted ball or forced by a walk.
  • Runners may only advance home via a batted ball or forced in on a bases loaded walk
  • Overthrows resulting from a batted ball are followed per regulation baseball rules.
  • No rain­outs will be made up or rescheduling of any games.
  • No throwing of equipment, helmets or bats.  Penalty is a team warning or ejection.
  • Metal spikes are not allowed in this league
  • A 7 run rule per inning is in effect with the exception of the 6th inning where it is waived. The inning is over once a team has scored 7 runs in their half of an inning and the play in which the 7th run scores is completed (therefore 10 runs are possible ie: bases loaded homerun)
  • Base runners may not leadoff
  • No intentional walks
  • Courtesy runner may be used for the catcher with 2 outs. The player who makes the last out becomes the courtesy runner.
  • A dropped third strike is the same as if it were caught

11 Yr Olds:

  • 11-14 players per team
  • 2 games per week (Tuesday & Thursday) thru a season ending tournament during a weekend in July
  • Teams will play in Mankato or North Mankato with possible games in the outer lying communities
  • 9 players on the field per inning ; full roster batting order and free substitution is used
  • Games are 6 innings maximum (5 ½ if home team is ahead) with a 2 hour time limit. No new inning will start after 2 hours. 
  • If the game is tied after 6 innings or 2 hr limit, game is a tie.  No extra innings played. 
  • Game time is promptly at 6:15 PM—no grace period
  • All players must play a minimum of 3 innings and may not sit out 2 consecutive innings.

—In the event of a suspended game: innings are charged per the original schedule (Example—if a game is started on Saturday and finished on Sunday the innings used on Sunday in the suspended game are charged to Sat)

12 Yr Olds:

  • All players must play a minimum of 3 innings and may not sit out 2 consecutive innings

  • 7 innings constitute a game, 6 ½ if home team is ahead, with a 2 hour 15 minute time limit; no new inning will start after 2 hours 15 minutes. EXTRA INNINGS will be played up to the 2 hour 15 minute time limit rule; game can end in a tie

  • A full roster batting order is used;   free substitution is used

  • No rain­outs will be made up or rescheduling of any games

  • 10 run rule applies after 5 innings (4 ½ innings if home team is ahead); if a team is ahead by 10 or more runs at that time, the game is over

  • No throwing of equipment, helmets or bats.  Penalty is a team warning or ejection.

  • Metal spikes are allowed

  • No curve balls allowed

  • Courtesy runners may be used for the pitcher and catcher. The player who makes the last out becomes the base runner.

  • Pitching limitations: Pitcher is limited to 4 innings per game. Once a pitcher is removed from the mound, he may not return to mound in that game (innings must be consecutive)

  • A DROPPED THIRD STRIKE IS IN PLAY

  • This is the first program where the base runner may leadoff and where the pitcher will pitch from the stretch with runners on base.

  • Balks will be called after one warning.  One warning per pitcher.

  • Field dimensions—75 foot bases, 52 foot pitching

 Season Ending Tournament Rules:

—In the event of a suspended game: innings are charged per the original schedule  (Example—if a game is started on Saturday and finished on Sunday the innings used on Sunday in the suspended game are charged to Sat.)

14/15/16 Yr Olds:

  • Team development will be by the league coaches from a master list of players in this age group; teams are divided as evenly as possible, no special requests for players or assistant coaches due to this format.  16 yr olds will be split over all teams

  • 11-14 players per team

  • 16 year olds must be split equally among the teams

  • Schedule calls for games in Mankato, and outer lying communities

  • 2 games per week (mostly Tues & Thur, some Mon & Wed) starting June 8th and ending with a tournament ending on July 22nd to determine the league champion

  • Rain outs will not be made up

  • Game time is promptly at 6 pm or 8 pm (except 5:30 at East High School & Thomas #1)

  • No grace period with a 2 hour 15 minute time limit. No new inning will start after
    2 hours 15 minutes. Extra innings will be played up to the 2 hours 15 minutes.

  • Time limit rule, game can end in a tie.

  • No throwing of equipment, helmets or bats penalty: ejection from the game

  • Metal spikes are allowed

  • Courtesy runners for the pitcher and catcher may be used, player with last recorded out

  • Curve balls by pitchers:

14 & 15 year olds—allowed with written permission from parent or guardian

16 year olds—allowed

  • Pitching limitations, 4 innings per game (innings must be consecutive)

  • Balks will be called, no warning is necessary

  • 10 run rule in effect after 5 innings (4 1/2 if home team is ahead) if a team is ahead by 10 or more runs at that time, the game is over.  The minimum playing time is waived in the event of a 10 run rule game.

  • A DROPPED THIRD STRIKE IS IN PLAY

  • The base runner may leadoff, & pitcher will pitch from the stretch with runners on base.

  • Diamond size is 90 foot bases, 60 foot 6 inches pitching

  • A full roster batting order is used, and free substitution

MAYBA Age Levels are based on State and National Regulations.  MAYBA allows all in-house players to play by their grade level if their brithday falls outside the age level listed below.

Players in Kindergarten now with birthdates of May 1st or after may play in the 6 yr old league.

Ages 10-16 yr old In-House players also have the option of playing on a "SIngle A" travel team.  This second team will travel to three tournaments, and practice regularly.  This will give the players a taste of the travel program, with higher competition.  You may choose to sign up for this dual team combination on your registration form.  No tryout required, but ages may be combined depending on registration numbers. 

Teams are now complete for 10, 11, 12, and 13 yr olds. Unfortunately we do not have enough registrations in 2010 for Single A teams at age 14, 15, or 16.
