MAYBA Royals 16 Yr Old Traveling Teams
Prior to the start of the season, players wanting to represent Mankato Area Youth Baseball Association traveling division for 16 year olds will tryout for AAA or AA teams. Each team will consist of 12-14 players, based upon the selection committee's evaluation of the skill level of the group and the coach's ability and experience. The 16AAA will play in the South Suburban Baseball League, while the 16AA league will be the 2nd District VFW League. Each team may participate in up to three invitational tournaments, including their own Mankato Tournament. All teams will also participate in their respective endofseason league tournaments as well, with the possibility of qualifying for a state tournament.
16 Year Old Travel Team Tryout Format: Evaluation of the players trying out will be done the by the 16 year old travel team coaches and a panel of up to 5 knowledgeable people, and at least one MAYBA Board Member. The Travel Team Coach of the AAA team will select his travel team first, and then the travel Team AA coach will select his.
The Travel Team tryout format will be established by the head coaches, under the assistance of the Travel Team Directors, and will consist of skills and drills, hitting, fundamentals, and scrimmage. The goal of the tryout is to select the best teams possible in the fairest way to each individual trying out.
Those players not placed on a full-time traveling team will be placed on the "A" travel team. These players will play in 3 weekend tournaments, AND play on regular in-house teams. This will give these players a taste of the travel program, with higher competition. Ages may be combined depending on registration numbers.
**2010: currently we do not have enough numbers to have a 16A team. Players not played on a full-time traveling team will be placed on a 14/15/16 yr old MAYBA In-House team.
16 Year Old Rules: At the beginning of each season, the head coach of each team is supplied with a long detailed version on each leagues travel league rules. It is the head coach’s responsibility to pass the detailed information to each participant and their family. In general, most leagues follow the MSHSL rules.

Tryout Information:
- Please do NOT wear any Royals clothing or hats
- We will provide numbered tshirts for tryouts
- Bring your spikes, glove, and a water bottle (no water at fields)
- You may bring your own bat if you would like
- Please arrive 15 minutes before tryout time to get checked in
- You can see maps of the fields on our website
- Parents should plan on staying for the beginning for a short informational meeting. The travel director will let you know when to return at the end.
Travel Team Parent/Player Meeting

DMMS at 6:00 pm
(either gym area or Mr. Anderson's homeroom)
Parent/player meeting for those players placed on the travel teams after tryouts. Please bring:
- Player - needs to try on sizes for shirts, etc
- COPY of player birth certificate
- Balance of travel fee $ - due that day
- Credit card machine will be available at parent meetings for in-person card transactions by cardholder
